According to Robert Eaker (2002) there are key questions associated with learning:

bullet What exactly do we expect students to learn?
bullet How will we know what students are learning?
bullet Based on a collaborative analysis of the results of our efforts, what can we do to improve student learning?
bullet How can we recognize and celebrate improvements in student learning?

Now, lets take those questions and ask them about teacher learning as we embark on the Standards for Teachers through Educational Projects (STEPs) program.

What exactly do we expect teachers to learn?

bullet We want teachers to learn the skills outlined in the Technology Standards for Teachers and Students.
bullet We want teachers to have the technology skills outlined in the Skill Sets document.

How will we know what teachers are learning?

bullet Teachers will create rubric scored projects.
bullet Teachers will take the Technology Needs Assessment annually.

Based on a collaborative analysis of the results of our efforts, what can we do to improve teachers learning?

bullet Data from the Technology Needs Assessment and feedback provided at individual professional development activities will be analyzed.
bullet Improvements to the STEPs program will be based on information from this analysis.

How can we recognize and celebrate improvements in teachers learning?

bullet A system for teacher recognition and reward is being put in place.
bullet The system is based on teachers reaching certain "benchmarks" in the program.
